I feel like a little girl again
Unmoving beneath the blankets
Terrified of the shadows on the wall
The monster in the closet
The would-be, could-be, possibilities
That I don't want to consider.

I clutch the blankets closer
Fingers stiff around the covers
Pulling them to my chin
My eyes widen, I start to shake
And I feel, it's real, painfully surreal
And I don't want to consider.

I watch the shadows move
Clawing, reaching out for me
Dark reminders of my past
Nightmares I can't escape from
Can't forget, what I regret, and yet
I don't want to consider.

I know they are a part of me
Doubting, the aching,
The twisting, the faking,
Memories.
So why do they still live?
Shouldn't they fade with time?
But the wounds are still there,
And you haven't a care.
For this blackness I must face.
